About EWAD

Environmental Women in Action for Development, EWAD (previously the Entebbe Women’s Association, EWA), is a non-governmental organization based in Entebbe, Uganda, that provides support to impoverished local communities irrespective of religious, political, gender and racial affiliations.

Since 2002, over 400 orphans and other vulnerable children have been given access to  education through EWAD’s Child Sponsorship Programme. Beginning in 2006, dozens of environmental and women’s rights projects have been implemented through EWAD’s Integrated Community Environmental Conservation Projects (ICE-COP).

On-going projects include the construction of an Orphanage Home that will house up to 50 children during the school holidays. Recently, EWAD expanded to include a second-hand Charity Shop, with all proceeds going towards the Child Sponsorship program.

Education a lease of life

Environmental Women in Action for Development (EWAD), advocates for Education of the Orphans and Other Vulnerable children in Uganda in its effort to ensure they are empowered. It is said that knowledge is power, and indeed Education is like a magic key that opens so many doors of opportunities in one’s life. Every human being needs that key to be empowered and liberated both in mind and in the world of various opportunities. This documentary therefore tells a story of some the beneficiaries attesting their journey with EWAD

“Studying changes your way of emotional thinking, it raises your intellectual capability and creates awareness for your environment. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t studied. Now I am able to do anything on my own and don’t have to rely on other people anymore.”

I first heard about EWAD in 2012 when it was ECWA by then I was in primary 6 when they helped to construct a 3 classroom building at Namayumba C/U primary school where I was studying from. I appreciate the work done in our community the building is still benefiting the community up to now.
