Clean Water

Water and Environment

EWAD has installed a fish pond, through the Conserving Lake Victoria Project (ECLAVP), funded by the UN Small Grants Programme. The fish pond allows sustainable fish farming, rather than continuing over fishing of Lake Victoria.

The fish pond is producing catfish, but the banks was eroded due to rains and floods.
We have created safe banks needed to survive during rainy season, because the banks were previously only slightly higher than the fish pond water.

During the rainy seasons, the pond would flood regularly, and many of the fish would escape into the surrounding marshy areas. Connie Atuheire, the ECLAVP project in charge, mobilized resources and the community to build a new higher bank was build.
